WHY ARE DEMOCRATS STILL SUPPORTING AN EX KLANSMAN?
Posted in political on December 23rd, 2005
In the hallowed halls of the U.S. Senate a small grey haired 88 year old man makes his way to his seat. Senator Robert Byrd (D-W. Va.) has walked these halls for a very long time. He’s been a senator since 1958. With his re-election underway in West Virginia, he most likely will slide easily into his record 9th term in 2006. He is, as of now, only 9 months from being the longest serving senator ever. Popular even amongst his enemies on the other side of the aisle, his past is rarely brought up. Lets see if we can change that. You see, Senator Byrd was once a Ku Klux Klan member. Not just some reader of white trash literature, but a full fledged Kleagle, a recruiter. Earning $10 a head Senator Byrd was so good at his job he once garnered praise from the Imperial Wizard himself for recruiting over 300 people. Makes you wonder what them folks are up to nowadays. Oh, I know what your thinking Dems, Come on H.C. He left the Klan way back in 1943. He’s a changed man. He’s repented. Just look at his website, he’s shaking hands with a black man. Christ your hypocritical. You run Trent Lott out of office for one statement at a birthday party but forgive a KKK recruiter. But, to be fair, let’s see how much Robert Byrd has changed. In 1964 he filibustered the Civil Rights Act for 14 hours, a Senate record he still holds. In 1965 he opposed the Voting Rights Act. In 1967 he opposed the confirmation of Thurgood Marshall, the first black Supreme Court justice and a Democrat appointee. In 1991 he opposed Clarence Thomas, another black justice, and most recently, he led the opposition against Condelesa Rice, who now holds the highest position ever held by a black woman. I couldn’t find how he voted on Colin Powell as there was no roll call, but I think we can all guess. It seems Old Bob thinks black folks are fine for photo ops, but not for higher positions. So why do Democrats still support a man who once vowed to “never fight with a negro by my side. Rather I should die a thousand deaths and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds”? The answer is easy. He wins, and the Democrats would rather tolerate a racist than risk losing a state to a Republican. Senator Byrd is also an expert on congressional procedure and a gifted orator, he beats on anyone who dares to oppose him. He’s held nearly every position in the Senate. He’s been Democratic Whip, Democratic Leader, Senate Minority Leader, Senate Majority Leader, and even President Pro Tempore of the Senate making him 3rd in line to the Presidency. Yikes! He wins his state over and over again by bringing in huge sums of money for special projects. In 2005 alone he brought in 399 million dollars for pork projects in West Virginia, earning him the title of “The Pork King” among the other members of the Senate. He uses this money to build tech centers, expressways, high schools, visitor centers, and a long list of other projects most of which he conveniently names after himself. A short 10 minute drive through West Virginia will have you losing count of the times you see the name Robert Byrd. This all works to keep him well known and thereby, re-elected. In conclusion, let me tell you a little story that might shed some light on why I take Old Bob (D-KKK) so personally. It’s a story of a white kid (me) who is stuck in a nearly all black school in racially charged Flint, Mich., beaten and harassed to a point of near suicide by misguided people who justified their actions by pointing at racist people in power like Robert Byrd. Now we can debate whether or not their actions were justified, but they were right about people like Senator Byrd. It’s inexcusable to have a man with his past in the Senate. The Democrats shouldn’t accept it, and neither should we. H.C.

THE MARIJUANA SOLUTION
Posted in Uncategorized on November 30th, 2005
Hello, and welcome to my second column. It’s also the last one I’ll give a number to. At some point it’s going to get redundant. I most say, with the introductions out of the way, my mind has been racing on where to begin. Since the first response I’ve gotten had to do with marijuana, let’s start there.
First off, the legalization movement in this country (U.S.) is laughable at best. I’ve gone to a few of the local rallies and left wondering if it’s a good idea myself. Please people, do yourself a favor and clean up your act a little. Do you really think anyone on the fence is going to be persuaded to vote for legalization after witnessing a crowd of people with bad hygiene, many who have never held a job, selling hemp jewelry and homemade pipes while carrying small children? Your clutch of friends may think your cool but the rest of us think you’re a burden we’ll have to carry. I know a lot of pot smokers who work hard, take good and proper care of their children, bathe regularly and are all round good citizens. The problem is, most of them are too busy taking care of things to go to your rallies. Step one is for the good people to step forward and the rest of you to hide yourselves and stop scaring the public. By the way, get a job and give your poor parents a chance to get on with their lives without you living in their basement.
Now, let study the problem. Politics is a game run by the number 51, as in 51 percent. Since you have no chance of legislation being introduced by Congress, your best bet is a referendum-put it to the vote. This is where the number 51 comes in. You have to find a way to legalize marijuana that 51 percent of the people will accept. This requires you to understand their concerns. Once their concerns are laid to rest, they can be persuaded to your side.
Let’s look at what these concerns are. Number 1 first and foremost is children. They don’t want them to have access to it. A reasonable request. Young people on marijuana make bad choices. They get pregnant, they drop out of school, they try other, far worse drugs. These are facts in their minds. It’s not open to debate. Debate them on this issue and you lose them as voters. Do not do it. Number 2. They don’t like seeing it in public. Most people by now have associated smoking pot with anti-social behavior. In their eyes your a bad influence on their children and a affront to respect for law and order. You must convince them It’s a harmless pastime (like beer) and not part of an anti -social movement. Number 3. With increased awareness of impaired driving, they will never accept you driving stoned. This most remain illegal. This also extends to working stoned. Number 4. Selling and trafficking of marijuana, even by big business (think of the tobacco industry) will not be accepted. Most people figure we have enough vices being peddled with alcohol and tobacco, we certainly don’t need a third. selling of marijuana must remain illegal.
Now for the solution. Marijuana can, in my opinion, be legalized for private consumption in your home. Even my most conservative friends really don’t see it as a big problem. I propose home cultivation, similar to micro brewery of beer. You would be allowed to grow your own marijuana, in a limited space, under lock and key. You would not, however, be allowed to transport it, sell it, give it away, or step outside with it. All current laws regarding driving, selling, or public consumption would stay in place. You would be limited in what you could grow by a space no bigger than 8 feet long by 8 feet tall by 4 feet deep powered by no more light than generated by 8-8 foot fluorescent bulbs or 640 watts total. This would be enough for a small reasonable farm. You would get your Federal or State permit from your local building inspector who would inspect your site, making sure it is safe and secure and not accessible to children. You would have to own you own home or have the permission of your landlord. Permits would be bought, with percentages divided between Federal, State and Local. Example: $300 permit = $100 Fed. , $100 State, $100 Local. Portions of each could be earmarked for drug prevention programs or school funding. Permits would be bought yearly with a review of your behavior. The permit performs a very important function. It puts money in their hands and alleviates funding problems without raising taxes. That gives them less incentive to fight you tooth and nail. Law enforcement would spend less time on law abiders and focus more directly on troublemakers.
I’m still refining my proposal. Together we can do this. Too many good people are having their lives ruined over marijuana. I welcome your questions or comments but mostly I need your help getting this idea out. H.C.

An Introduction

Hello, and welcome to my column, or for those of you that used to visit me at my old site, welcome back. To bring everyone up to speed I'm going to rerun my archived columns everyday until we're all on the same page. Then we'll go back to the once a week posting that most of you were used to.
Webster defines a hippie as; “A young person of the 1960’s who rejected established social values, advocated spontaneity, free expression of love and the expanding of consciousness.” A conservative on the other hand is defined as; ” A person who is conservative in principles, actions, habits, etc.” Conservative in this definition is meant to mean ‘moderate’ not extreme right, as some tend to associate it.
This, I think, defines me perfectly. A person cought between his 60’s values and his moderate conservative morals. I am, in other words, a walking contradiction. To far left too be with the right and too far right to suit the left. Everyones hates me on some level. My mom jokes that I used to debate Jehovah’s Witnesses to the point where they would skip our house. I love to debate. My goal in this column is to get George Bush to support aborting people like me. To make Michael Moore support capital punishment, as long as I’m first to go. I want The Pope to hope to strangle me and Ghandi to rise from his grave and punch me in my pudgy little face. No one is going to be safe. I’m riding a hellbound train Savoy Brown wouldn’t get on. A switch hitter of the political sort. I’ll ask you why you never see videos of black cops beating up white criminals. (Surely it happens.) Why is marijuana still illegal despite the fact that past potheads keep becoming presidents. (If it really causes brain damage, are we electing brain damaged people? hmmmmm……) does the Republican party really want to change Roe vs. Wade? ( don’t they get most of their money from people who will stop contributing once it is overturned?)
So keep reading folks, strap in and hang on, your going to question everything you believe.
